Galling Rousers

I am going to talk about bad things -- galling rousers. I will use "rousers" here to refer to noises that wake me up and "galling" being that these are personally unpleasant and annoying. These just tick me off. Last night, I went to bed at 2am but did not fall asleep until maybe 4am. I heard a car beep and I woke up, still very tired, when it was still dark. I'm guessing that this was a little after 5am. Immediately, I slept again. Then I was roused by the ruckus of a gate opening and a car pulling in (or out) of a driveway. Fell asleep again. Then, a car honked and a gate was opened and yes, I woke up, again. This time, I looked at the clock and saw that it was 11am. So, between 4 and 11 this morning, I was startled off sleep three times. But the last time (11am) I did not fall asleep right away. I would doze off - when your mind would begin to cloud up and wouldn't hear anything - but after a while, I'd wake up again without any annoying rousers causi...

Whole Wheat Pandesal

Butter on toasted whole wheat pandesal , yum. Looked like a lot but the bread was so soft that it wasn't, really. On the matter of wheat bread, I have eaten white wheat bread. I've grown not to like white bread but the "white wheat" kind was interesting because it was sweet. Unfortunately, if it's not "whole wheat" (white, red or otherwise) it's not as "healthy" -- yes, I looked it up. I think I read it from the Mayo Clinic site. Anyway, I am thinking of breakfast right now. Hopefully, I'd quickly fall asleep tonight but it's not always the case. For a few nights now, I've had to MAKE myself fall asleep. I'd sing aloud (or sing in my head). Yeah, you may laugh it up but it works for me! HAH! Well, right now, I am quite tired so I may be out as soon as I go to bed. Oh, in relation to my last post, it did rain that night. It was heavy too that we took out flashlights and candles in case of a blackout. Thank goodness that the p...

Smells Like Rain and Arsenal

I hear thunder and it smells like rain but it's still very humid now. When I hear thunder, I get nervous when I'm on the computer. It's because - this has happened more than a few times - the power would (how can I put it?) flicker and that is never good. I am very tempted to shut this off now because I don't want any power surge messing things up. Obviously, I am stalling - wishing the thunder would go away. It is very hot and humid here again so I hope the rain will cool things down a bit - if it does rain, that is. Thunder's sounding like it's moving away. Sign of imminent showers, maybe? OK, will shut this off until the thunder goes away. Got to keep my income-generating machine healthy, you know? While I'm on that note, I wish that I were the only person using this machine because I've customized it, in a way. Even invested in a proper "arsenal" of protection too. But if someone else uses this machine less than sensibly (even with the best...

Deezer is Not Quite Back and XL

I visited Deezer - haven't gone there in a week or so - and I was surprised to find that one of my old playlists is working perfectly. Makes me happy that I did not change tracks there when Deezer fizzled a last month. Well, only one playlist is working fine and the others (I have four) still go to "smart radio" mode. So, Deezer is not quite back... but it's getting there, hopefully. Found a shirt that I haven't really worn before because it's too tight. Got it last year (the hiatus) from the kids' section at Old Navy - the size is XL, extra large. From the rack it looked like it would fit back then. But during that holiday I gained so much weight that it didn't fit me. My sister said that I should have been looking at the petite's section in stead of the kids' section. Yeah... but stuff from the petites' are expensive. [frowns] Anyway, I am wearing the shirt right now and it fits! Wow, I lost my hiatus weight -- woohoo! It's actually ...

A Year Gone and Transcribing Faster

It's been a little over a year now since I added "freelance transcriber" to the list of my "work from home" jobs. I did say here that I aim to type 60 WPM (words/minute) soon. So, I went back to TypingTest just to see if I've improved. And YES, I have and I'm happy to say that I've reached my goal -- 60 WPM. I am transcribing faster -- Hooray! Though my transcription work has been sporadic, I do not have any complaints. If I were to describe it now, it'd be that - once in a while my affiliate will contact me if they have any extra audio that they need to be done. For some reason, I could not have asked for a better set-up because this is exactly what I would have preferred. It's all working out well, thank goodness. Also, this is sort of a first-year anniversary post for "Dada's Blog". I am tempted to reflect on how the past year has been but I am not going to go there. LOL I am tempted but I wouldn't give in because it...

Bank Queue and Chitchat

So I went back to the bank yesterday. And no, I didn't struggle with their slippery floor this time. Unfortunately, the bank was packed because only one teller was working with the customers. I think their computer server went down or something because a boss (she looked like a boss) was walking around, clicking her high heels, and going around the terminals with a couple of guys following her. Anyway, there were two men talking to the lady who I came to see so I took my place in line. I did not hover over the lady and the men in front of me so there was quite a gap between us. A couple of boys came and stood behind me so we made a queue -- which was the proper thing to do. Another boy arrived and stood close to the lady-clerk. I thought that that did not look good and that he should go to the end of our line. At that point, the men got up and this boy just swept in and talked to the clerk! He stole my place in line! After that offensive and displeasing thing, the dolt left and I t...

Bane of Slippery Floors

Slippery floors, I am almost sure, are going to be the end of me. Curse slippery floors! I went to the bank last week and the building looks fairly new. The moment I stepped inside, I swear, I became so terrified because I almost slipped. Well, it wasn't obvious or anything - I did not scream or make a scene. It's just that when I put my weight on one foot, I slid for a bit but I caught myself quickly - thank goodness! I already walk slowly (and carefully) under normal circumstances but walking inside this bank took longer than when I talked to the clerk which was very annoying - the walking on their slippery floor part, not the talking with the clerk part. Anyway, next week, I will be going back. This time, I will be wearing shoes with better traction... I just HATE slippery floors!!! And what's with the ramps with slippery tiles on them? Seriously, if buildings are going to have ramps, at least layer them with the non-slip stuff. I think that they only add ramps to buildi...

Headset Makes All the Difference

I bought a better headset last month from a friend because our old A4Tech one was LOUSY (to say the least!). The old one costs a little over 300 pesos which goes to show how much I got out of it which wasn't a lot! After a few months, the fit gave way and I was already pressing the earphones to my ears just so I would hear better with it. That made some of my transcription work harder than they should be, for sure. It would also slide off my head when I would accidentally tug its cable. It was stressing me out so when my friend asked if I wanted to buy a used, good-quality headset... it was kismet! I immediately decided that I was going to go for the offer even if I haven't seen it yet... Well, not totally because I wanted to make sure that the fit was perfect and everything worked well, of course. When my friend brought it over so I can test it out, I did everything to see if it was all right. So, the fit was good. It was a bit tight at first but now, it feels better on my ear...

Junked

I just wanted to say that I had some junk food tonight but the word "junked" sounded (and looked) more interesting so I used that. LOL Ate half a can of Pringles Crisps and Coke Light while I watched some dancing competition something show with someone. I think that I ate too much because I don't really remember what I saw and I kept popping potato crisps in my mouth. I do remember putting them on my tongue the "right way". I think I saw it on "Good Eats" - that Pringles chips were intentionally shaped to follow the tongue's curve so that we can eat it with one bite or something. I pulled a double (yeah, like shifts apply when you're working from home! HAHA!) this (just passed) weekend. Submitted a transcript too, two days before the deadline - woohoo!!! To be honest, I liked the audio that I got and the amount of time that they gave me to finish it -- they're just right. See, I have scheduled work tomorrow and checking that off my list fee...

Brownies Unlimited and Globe Music

Here's one kind of brownie from the Brownies Unlimited assortment. They have their own labeled box now (or maybe they've had those for a while now) but I remember when their assortments came in generic plastic containers. They're doing very well, obviously. A six-brownie pack from Brownies Unlimited used to cost 90 pesos many years ago. I wonder how much they cost now. By the way, there are 12 brownies in their label box... or maybe I'm just way off the mark on this signature-box theory. They've probably been using that for the 12-brownie pack all this time. Shows how much I know about what's going on in the big, outside world of brownie manufacturers, huh? The second agenda on this post is Globe music. And no, it's not about "world music". It's about my mobile service provider's (Globe) WAP music store. I'm going to start from what happened this morning... very, very early, this morning: I had to check my email but I was still very sle...
