done!

RE: Bookkeeping Finally, done! Not doing this anymore. Peace!

first of august

August is here! What's up? After the fever, I started coughing; the barking kind. Now, I'm not "barking" so much and I think I'm recovering well. A typhoon passed through. Sad to learn that many areas were flooded. For two days, we lost cell signal from Globe Telecom. The signal came back yesterday. Our old dog got away and there was havoc for four days. That old, tiny dog's so territorial. Anyway, all's OK now except that someone's nursing a small dog bite that we think is healing and drying nicely; as long as they don't scratch the scab there shouldn't be a scar. They're going to the hospital for shots too. WAH update: I'm not bookkeeping anymore. Well, I'm still wrapping things up but after that, then, that's it. I was so behind and not confident with what I was doing. We parted ways with no trouble. Many years' worth of paperwork will remain here and will be disposed of accordingly - four years storage is wh

extra extra

Received unsorted docs for a tax report i should send out before the week is over. Normally, i get these all organized in folders but this is the busy revenue season so... I don't mind the extra work. It's not a lot really. I could easily handle the 'sorting & copying things by hand to a cash book' after the report is done. Regular bookkeeping will be pushed back, of course. I don't like that that's falling behind but, well, it can't be helped.

menudo and purging

Image
Here's some yummy menudo I had the other day. Been purging papers here. I've gotten rid of receipts and other docs from '06, goodness knows I need the space. Still, ripping papers by hand is a chore and all the while I was wishing I had a shredder. All in all, I managed to fill three medium-size garbage bags with all that trash. But with all that work, my room doesn't look any different. Oh crap.

12345

Had to stop when I got this figure. Wouldn't it be awesome if it came out 12345 6.78 ? I couldn't help but go, "Cool... almost." [grins]

Challenging March

Closing the books for the third first quarter is starting to become a chore. When I'm on it, it appears that I've more to do than what I thought when I started. So close and yet so far. Maybe if I get better tools, it wouldn't be too tasking. And I'm thinking along the lines of a refill for my pilot g-tec. I know, it's neither fancy nor interesting but if it would help make this go on better and quicker... hey, to each their own. I think that of all the months, March is particularly tricky. I don't know why, to be honest. It could be that it's when most prepayments start - like for insurance and such. Yes, I should get a refill for my g-tech g-tec... a C3, no, C4. Yes, C4.

Muss of Opening Books and Sharpie

I've forgotten how tedious it was to open accounting books for the new fiscal year. I did some reversals, a bit of filling in of column titles, and a lot of ledger-writing. But those are done so, let the recording begin! Now, if only I can figure out where to stash the documents from last year... The space under my dresser is housing the 2006's, the shelf is home to the 2007's and the 2008's are stacked here on a chair. Decisions-decisions. Since I can't toss anything that's less than four (or five? I forget) years old, I'm blighted by the sight of paper. Oh, so where did I put the 2004-2005's? Oh no, I forget - wait, they're probably in the closet. I threw the old stuff (older than 2004) out because they were from the previous "entity". [sticks tongue out] I tried to make 3D glasses yesterday - who the heck knows where to buy them here naman kasi ?!? But nothing I made worked. I think that I had the wrong shade of blue - it's supposed

Dusky and Lovely

The weather's a bit dusky lately. We had some rain for the past couple of nights. I like this kind of duskiness. Don't get me wrong, it's not gloomy for me. I think of it as being quiet and relaxed. It's quite lovely, actually. The temperature's cooled down too and no humidity - hurrah! The downside is that the cable's acting up. It would go out and then come back up again. Missed seeing Oliver's Twist though (boo-hoo). Well, they've been showing reruns of it for quite a while now so... It's a pretty old show but it's still good. Haven't grown tired of it, surprisingly. Had a hearty lunch of lechon paksiw (I wonder how long we're going to have that) and just ate a banana. I'm off to work - just a few paces to the computer table... Oh, I'm right here. Nye! I'm actually going to start with some books now, starting the 2009 in-house accounting books and all. Then, it's off to online work. Just wanted to note the lovely, dusk

Q3 Down and Deezer Fizzes

So happy -- Q3 down! Well, almost... I just have to polish the margins on the financial reports (for the third quarter of 2008) but hey, it's almost done! I am sure that I will send that tomorrow so it's all good. [sigh] Thank goodness. Deezer (that I think was just perfect the way they were) recently had a make-over and so far, they haven't been able to work out the kinks. For a few days now, users (including me) have been having some problems with their playlists. That is, they can't play them anymore! In my case, it comes and goes. Like yesterday, some songs on a playlist would stream but it's on Smart Radio mode and the next song would be picked out by the system. But earlier today, somehow I got lucky and was able to listen to all my tracks without a hitch - in perfect order and all - like nothing went wrong. Then, when I logged in again tonight, only one of my playlists would stream properly. On my other playlists, a random song (that's on the list) would

Good Pace, PS and Keane In My Head

From the look of things, I may be able to finish these 2008 accounting books (that's "as of August" pa lang ) by the end of this month. I am working at a pretty good pace, I think, not too slow but not too hectic -- it's just right. And if they can give me the tax data for September before then, I just might be able to keep this nice tempo going. Bought Keane's Perfect Symmetry MP3 album earlier. Yes, that is what "PS" stands for in the title up there and not "PlayStation". LOL And now that I've got all three of their albums (still wishing for each CD, of course), I can say that Keane is the voice (or tune) in my head these past few weeks -- the good and healthy kind of tune, of course. It is quite interesting that I've had to Google three words (two of which are lyrics and the other one is about a gig) since Keane came into my consciousness. From the lyrics, I had to look up the words - spires and cenotaph. And other one is the word &q

Seeing Sweaters, Accounting, and Keane

Everyone but me is wearing a sweater at our house tonight. They say it's chilly - and it is - but I like it. I even have the fan pointed directly, err, at an angle facing my bed so I'll be all-huddled under the covers later -- almost freezing. LOL I did not sleep well at all last night because my feet were cold but I don't care. Also, I finally finished the in-house accounting books as of June, sent off the statements too. I'm working on July now but I find that I do not have all the information I need just yet -- oops, another delay! Oh well, it is what it is. :) Seeing the MTV video of the song, Perfect Symmetry, by Keane made me curious about their albums. So, I've been listening to Hopes and Fears (their first) and I've decided that I want to get it. Yes, Keane interests me . Since it was released four years ago (2004) it's going to be cheaper too, I think. I hope that they've got it in stores here now. I've looked at their official website and i

A Cupcake Thrown In

Image
Thought I'd throw a cupcake in for today's post since I've nothing else to write about than my utter disappointment at not meeting my bookkeeping goal (I've talked about it a few entries down, I think) for 2008. That is, finishing the accounting books as of June... so sad. The last week of December proved to be more activity-filled than I anticipated and I am still prepping the June documents pa . Also, my left eye's starting to act up again with those white dots in view or maybe my glasses are smudged -- wait. Oh, it's a little of both. [sigh] I've got Keane on - Hopes and Fears - and I think that's adding to my melancholy. Nothing like having sort of an appropriate soundtrack actually playing in the background. It's a little bit funny, really. The cupcake was from last week, 'twas a gift for new year's. Of course, it wasn't just one cupcake -- it was a whole boxful. haha I liked the cake but the icing left much to be desired.

Temp Tonight and Bookkeeping Catch-Up

Image
OMG, it's 26 degrees tonight -- loving it! I am feeling the pressure of trying to get as much in my friend's in-house accounting books before the year ends. My goal is to complete them "as of June" and from the looks of it, I just might do it too. That is still a "maybe" though but setting a goal is always good. I know that sounds terrible since there is that annual thing (LOL) by April next year -- nyee... But I think their current BIR liaison's all right. I mean, I was expecting that they'd ask for the "as of September" reports last November but they didn't. I suppose they were considerate enough to understand that I was on hiatus for three and a half months and that they won't get anything in-house for a while! LOL But come April 2009, I've no excuses. NO EXCUSES, I tell you - I mean, I tell me !!! Huh?!? :P

Feeling Sick

I'm feeling sick and I can't concentrate on my bookkeeping... wanted to "write" about it or anything else, though. See, when you're doing the books (mortal&pestle -- not with any software), you have to concentrate. Or else, you'd be crossing out errors over and over again and you'd have no more space and your pages will look dirty... and I don't like dirty. The worst thing that can happen is that when you're doing the totals later on, you'd get that .01 error and you'd have to go back to find it... that's such a terrible waste of time. If you've done it right by concentrating in the first place, that would never happen. Not that it's happening to me, right now, but if I went on with this while I'm feeling sick, it's inevitable. I got this bad cough and it comes and goes but right now, I feel that I'm too aware of my breathing because there's phlegm... ewww! Sorry 'bout that. Anyway, I also used "Sens

Trying Out Google Docs

They fixed the pc here a while ago but unfortunately they had to reformat so a few applications were lost - one of which is MS office. My friend sent me their VAT report for June in Excel and I needed to get it ready for the accounting books. What I've started using is the "google docs" spreadsheet to work on it. So far, so good. It keeps the document online or "in the cloud" so I needn't download it (not that I can since MS office's not installed) and it makes it more convenient. My first snag was how I could add more data into the spreadsheet. It's because I couldn't go over the alloted space from the print area in the original document. After a few tries, the solution was to copy/paste the original data into another worksheet that's tabbed in the same file. It also auto-saves so I needn't worry about it getting lost. So far, some limits that I see with this online feature is that I can't undo more than the last action and I'd h

One Down... Oh, Not Quite

Transcription In the spirit of being a reliable WAH worker [grins], I've finished and submitted my last transcript ("last" meaning, before going on vacation) a few hours ago - again, before the deadline. [grins more] I am so relieved... That's one down and two to go -- Oh, not quite pala! I guess I'm still waiting for a re-affirmation of what we've talked about a while ago (like four weeks ago) about still having a spot on the transcription team when I get back. Well, she's on holiday right now so I guess that's why there's no feedback on the recent email that I sent. It was a simple schedule notice... sort of a "just in case you've forgotten" thing. I hope she didn't forget - I hope, I hope. Bookkeeping I've said that I wanted to finish my friend's first quarter books before I go. But from the look of things, it's not likely to happen. I'm just getting as many things done in that department as possible. I needn

What a Pain and Yum Shrimps

What a pain it was to have our street - yeah, just our street! - to have a blackout last Friday. See, it was raining and we heard a bang from somewhere and our power went out. The power went out everywhere but it came back up again after like two minutes but ours didn't. Turns out, the garage or the car wash down the street got hit by lightning. Anyway, Meralco got us up almost seven hours later. For me, that meant lost revenue. Yup, I passed up an audio that day. Oh well, at least I got to catch up on my friend's books. My goal is to finish my friend's first quarter accounting before we go on holiday. Oh, and my friend decided to have her BIR liasion to do the taxes this month. That was so brilliant of her! She thought that since they'd be doing it while I'm away, better start now so that I can see if it's okay and that if they had any questions, they could still call me at home. Well, no call and the report's done! Great! Oh, we had shrimps cooked in oil,

Working on a Friday Night

No, this is neither transcription nor content-writing because this week's work concerning those are done. I am, now, finishing the tax report for my bookkeeping client... You know what? They're more of a friend than a client so I'm going to keep this on a very informal note and tone. Ergo, she is my friend who's asked me to make their business' tax reports and in-house books for them. That's about right. I got a call yesterday morning and their tax people were asking when they'd pick up the report and the check for the BIR. I said, "Well, I just got the documents so you can get them on Monday." See, I checked the tax calendar and this particular due is due (lol!) on the 25th. Since they want to get things over with, way before the deadline (which I appreciate as I do the same), that gives me this weekend to wrap this up. But something came up that gave me the impression that I might be going out on Sunday so I've only got today and tomorrow to

Weather, Funny Typos and Luggage

Image
Earlier this week, there were a couple of afternoon and morning drizzles. The news reported that there was a storm in the area. Nada, nil, zip... zero storm. But it was cool for a while then... but it was brief. I only wished that it would rain. I don't want a storm, of course, for the simple reason that the power might go out. And you know how that could affect my online WAHJ's -- very badly. But now, we're back to warm and humid weather again. And my hair clamp broke too so my long hair's covering the back of my neck now and the heat's giving me a headache. And I don't have anything to tie my hair back too... Oh, the misery. Right, I'd better stop complaining about that. lol! Yesterday - yes, I was able to submit my transcript in time (two minutes before the deadline!) - as I was going over my work, I discovered funny typos that would've been really embarrassing had I not corrected them before the editors got to them. Now, I forget... OK, I'm going

Oops (!) and Bookkeeping Errors

Image
Oops! Again, I forgot to take a picture of our amazing pasta . Sorry. lol! But I did get my cup of coffee though. And there is that speck of pasta sauce stain on my accounting journal -- if you can see that. That won't come off too unless I ruin the page. It's right there, down at the bottom... see? lol! I get sort of "mechanical" when I do bookkeeping. And anyone who's worked with journals and ledgers would attest to what's called "transposition errors" in recording. I'm guilty of that sometimes when my eyes unintentionally wander and I write what I think I was supposed to write in stead of looking at what I'm jotting down. That's like writing 637 in stead of 673. lol! That sucks because you'd only find out as you're doing the totals already and you have to go back to see where the debits don't equal the credits. That's why being sleepy while doing bookkeeping can be very bad. I mean, who'd want to be inconvenienced w
