Stinky chives

They're making pancit molo and the chives smell horrible. Like stinky BO.

Goals

Before 2016 ends: 1. learn more Japanese 2. finish this Harry Potter book

Simbang gabi

Simbang gabi is held at a different church each night. It is followed by a potluck dinner hosted by the local patrons.

Smells

When it smells like cooking in here, I light this up.

My travel packing list

Been traveling... I have a must-bring list in my head already. Apart from the obvious medicines, deodorant... I'm just going to write it down... 1. Disposable cotton panties from Watsons 2. Unscented baby wipes 3. Cetaphil gentle cleanser

A mansion in Naples

One of the mansions in Naples, Florida We took a sightseeing boat tour in Naples last Thanksgiving weekend. We went on the Double Sunshine at Tin City.

Usps tracking says delivered but it's not

UPDATE: The package "appeared" on my table that evening so it must have been delivered in the afternoon. So the local Usps scanned too early? Probably. ...... Bought a lipstick palette on amazon from a 3rd-party seller with free shipping. Usps tracking says it's delivered at 11:49 a.m. today, 11/16/16, but it's not here! Makeup (even cheap $7 makeup!) is already a splurge for me which makes this doubly frustrating. On top of that, I have a migraine on the right side of my head, from my temple to the back of my skull.

Nag-ta-ta-talak

Ligo sardines, boiled egg, banana slices, jasmine brown rice Waah! They're watching reality court tv! It's so loud! Quiet!

Pollo norteno

Mexican food after church, we shared a pollo norteno Delicious food at Casa Linda. Their refried beans are yum.

Good morning

Kiwi, vienna sausage, chinese sausage, egg, rice They're going grocery-shopping this morning. I'm left with food. I should be ok until they come back.

Blaming the disease

Since my left hand became weak at the same time my polymyositis flared over a decade ago, it has never improved, even a little. I kept telling my PTs (physical therapists) about it but they just said the same thing -- do the open/close exercise, squeeze a stress ball. I did and still do but nada, nil, zip. My left hand would occasionally feel numb. The numbness would go up to my elbow and sometimes my face, and I'd be terrified thinking that I was having a stroke. I even wondered if I was developing inclusion-body myositis (ibm is another kind of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy that initially weakens the fingers and, as of now, progresses because it does not respond to treatment). My left fingers often hyper-extend to compensate for the weakness. When we attended the annual myositis patient conference by TMA in September 2016, we noticed that my left hand looked the same as the ibm patient attendees -- fingers hyper-extended. Can I also have ibm? I asked Dr. Steve Ytterberg  ...

Growing things

Starting a small garden Donald Trump is the new US President. I want to grow tomatoes but where can I start?

DST sux

Tickets to Jo Koy 's Comedy Show, The Casino @ Dania Beach DST ended here on Sunday and I haven't adjusted. I woke up 8 a.m. feeling OK. Now, it's 11 a.m. and I'm already tired. We saw Jo Koy 's stand-up comedy show last Friday. It was mostly dirrrty. He looked tired (or hung over?). There were a few drunk hecklers but he handled it well. Oh, Rhonda's "piss at the curb... house burned down..." he ran with that for a while. I liked the singing at the end.

Brunch 11-01-2016

Jasmine brown rice with turmeric, kiwi, beef ribs, chicken. Leftovers from last night.

Lost an earring

I lost one of my earrings at the Bedner's Fair last week while rolling through gravel. It was bumpy and I think I felt it "jump off."

What is stupid?

Trying to reason with a stupid person is like trying to play chess with a pigeon that shits all over the board and then walks away acting like it's won. I read this somewhere and it stuck. Because it's true.

Wifi ok but no internet on android (Fixed)

Strawberries, corned beef, rice I lost my roaming connection again. After I shut my android phone off to take out the battery and sim card for a while and put them back again (which is one of the suggestions to fix roaming), the roaming was still shot. But then... it connected to WiFi OK but there was no internet. THE FIX: I went into settings and saw that the time and date were wrong so, I manually corrected them. Internet over WiFi came on instantly. Problem solved. Still no roaming though. But that could be on the network's side because Globe said my roaming is currently active. I think I need to upgrade my phone too.

Bedner's Fresh Market and Fair

Bedner 's Fresh Marke t and Pumpkin Fair Sunny, windy and cool. Nice Saturday at Bedner's Pumpkin Fair. I got gluten-free choco chip cookies. Pictures I took at the pumpkin rows are blurry. I have a bad sunburn.

It's dark inside

Tuna flakes, avocado, egg, vienna sausage, rice, coffee The hurricane shutters are still up. There's no natural light coming inside. Dilim.

Hurricane Matthew

It was windy outside We started preparing for Hurricane Matthew on Wednesday. It was expected to hit us Thursday evening. It came in the wee hours Friday. I heard the wind howling outside. Thank goodness it passed quickly.

I'm gonna get big

Dune Deck's Mimosa Cafe Corned beef hash plate and a mimosa for Sunday's brunch at Dune Deck's. So good. I like that they have fresh fruit too. Yum... Two of us shared this plate. I would not have finished it all by myself. Half of this was just right for me, I ate like a king which is what I like to do for breakfast. That night, we had dinner at another house and everything was delicious. I usually eat small portions at night but it could not be helped, I was so full when we left.

Worn and torn

The powerchair after just 2 months One black plastic cap over a front wheel is lost, seat is squeaking, motor is tick-tick-ticking... Phew. It's been gate-checked at airports 4 times (airline staff here in the US are so used to it that it's great traveling now), strapped inside wheelchair-accessible cab (once) and shuttles (twice), wheeled through some small streets (even brick so it hurt my head because my chair does not have shock absorbers), disassembled to fit in an SUV full of groceries, wheeled through sand (tried to but failed - I got stuck and had to be pushed back to the cemented walkway - terrifying), through grass (never again - dirty and uneven ground), through wet ground (ick), drizzle of rain (ack - this is an electric wheelchair, you know)... What else? Point is, I can't keep it pristine, clean and all in one piece. At this point, I'm happy it's still working and I'm free to move around by myself - yipee!

Things to do

Sunny afternoon in our corner of Florida Florida has unpredictable weather. It can be sunny and rainy and back in just 30 minutes. This afternoon, I plan to sort my clothes, add Stevia sweetener to my d-i-y mocha creamer mix, comb my hair (haha) and maybe grab a snack.

Wasting time

Food Street game app I'm wasting time on this game. Aaargh!

Hilton Riverside Gumbo

Gumbo at the Hilton Riverside (NOLA) Gumbo, quiche, chicken kiev, asparagus salad and vegetable lasagna were some of the dishes we had at the Hilton Riverside in New Orleans while we attended the annual Myositis patient conference. The conference included some breakfasts and lunches. I looked forward to breakfast. The coffee was delicious and I like to have cold orange juice first thing. For the lunches, they served desserts - apple pie and tiramisu. Some attendees requested the gluten-free menu and were served fish and fresh fruit. There were cut fruit sold at the 2nd floor lobby cafe but they were gone before I had time to buy one. I missed eating fresh fruit on this trip but was glad there were some raspberries in our yogurt in one of the breakfasts.

Golden Literider ptc162

Golden literider ptc 162 model in red. I have a powerchair! Yay! The first picture is the salesman adjusting the metal plate to go up a notch for me. A powerchair was on top of my to-buy list while in Florida. We headed straight to the medical supplies store our first week in. I love my red chariot! Weeee!

Drago's Hilton Riverside NOLA

Went to New Orleans in Louisiana. Had our first meal of a catfish po-boy and crab cake sliders at Drago's inside the Hilton Riverside Hotel. They were not yummy, sad to say.

Beignets at Cafe du Monde, Riverwalk NOLA

Cafe du Monde beignets ( Riverwalk Outlet Center, NOLA) You have to try the beignets in New Orleans, they say. DONE! And they are delicious! So good that the next day, we came back so that someone can buy more.

Leftovers

From July 2016. Leftovers for breakfast. Just add a sunny side-up egg. Fresh cherries are yummy.

Ikea in Sunrise

Drove up to Sunrise last week. The sky was beautiful on the way. We went to the local Ikea. I ate their famous Swedish meatballs for the first time. Delicious.

Find-it organizer caddy

Yay! Find-it organizer/supply caddy was delivered in 2 days with amazon prime. It's well-made and the design is nice. My things fit and they're finally all in one place. Less clutter in my small space.

Maxwell House instant coffee mix

Maxwell House International Coffee - French Vanilla. Yummy instant dessert coffee mix. It's complete, just stir in hot water. Got this at Walmart for $3.++. I prefer using this as a creamer because the coffee taste is too weak for me by itself. Delicious.

Overnight at Acacia Hotel in Filinvest, Alabang

My cousin's on vacation so she stopped by the day before her flight home. We finally went through with our wishful-thinking plan (from years before) of just hanging out at a nice hotel to drink, eat, chat and sleep. It was spur of the moment! Booked a deluxe, wheelchair-accessible room with a king-size bed at Acacia Hotel in Filinvest, Alabang for 1 night. We took their summer promo room rate of ₱5588 that includes breakfast buffet for 2 + ₱1875 (extra bed with buffet breakfast for 1 for my carer). We waited for our ride, ate some dinner at home and left. We arrived at Acacia Hotel maybe after 10 p.m. I was in my wheelchair and didn't know what was happening at the check-in counter. I kept asking but my cousin said it was OK, she was paying the Php 3000 refundable deposit with cash. I signed the forms, they gave us 2 key cards and we were good to go. THE DELUXE, WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE ROOM WITH KING-SIZE BED At Acacia Hotel, a wheelchair-accessible room means the bathr...
