Gumbo at the Hilton Riverside (NOLA) Gumbo, quiche, chicken kiev, asparagus salad and vegetable lasagna were some of the dishes we had at the Hilton Riverside in New Orleans while we attended the annual Myositis patient conference. The conference included some breakfasts and lunches. I looked forward to breakfast. The coffee was delicious and I like to have cold orange juice first thing. For the lunches, they served desserts - apple pie and tiramisu. Some attendees requested the gluten-free menu and were served fish and fresh fruit. There were cut fruit sold at the 2nd floor lobby cafe but they were gone before I had time to buy one. I missed eating fresh fruit on this trip but was glad there were some raspberries in our yogurt in one of the breakfasts.

Went to New Orleans in Louisiana. Had our first meal of a catfish po-boy and crab cake sliders at Drago's inside the Hilton Riverside Hotel. They were not yummy, sad to say.

Cafe du Monde beignets ( Riverwalk Outlet Center, NOLA) You have to try the beignets in New Orleans, they say. DONE! And they are delicious! So good that the next day, we came back so that someone can buy more.

Drove up to Sunrise last week. The sky was beautiful on the way. We went to the local Ikea. I ate their famous Swedish meatballs for the first time. Delicious.

Maxwell House International Coffee - French Vanilla. Yummy instant dessert coffee mix. It's complete, just stir in hot water. Got this at Walmart for $3.++. I prefer using this as a creamer because the coffee taste is too weak for me by itself. Delicious.

My cousin's on vacation so she stopped by the day before her flight home. We finally went through with our wishful-thinking plan (from years before) of just hanging out at a nice hotel to drink, eat, chat and sleep. It was spur of the moment! I'm following this up - trying to pinpoint what I'm allergic to. Apart from biting and sucking on a shrimp's head, I also suspect my lip balm. The lip balm that I started using every night since November last year when it started getting cold: Burt's Bees Peppermint lip balm. I haven't put it on since March when I had that allergic reaction on my lips that took weeks to go away . I tested the lip balm on Monday, May 23, 2016. I applied it on half of my lower lip and a moment later... There it is, that part of my lower lip getting itchy and inflamed. The redness is obvious close to the center. It was swollen when I woke up the next day and the clear bubbles started to appear along the edge as the day went on. Same thing as before. I'm allergic to you. I'm allergic to you... It felt really nice on my lips before I became allergic to it too. Oh well...

My new prescription eyeglasses is ₱₱ kahit net na ng 20% (PWD-cardholder discount). It will have anti-glare coating to relieve eye strain from looking at a computer screen too long. It will have to be special ordered. The frame I chose. Dropped by Verona Optical in SM Muntinlupa on our way home from Alabang for this. Their shop is on the 2nd floor beside the food court. Almost 4 years in and its white rubber covering has started to break apart and fall off. Had to tape it together to keep it from making a mess and exposing the silver hair-like layer and wires inside. Looks ugly now but it still works. This was taken on March 19 and the worst that the swelling has gotten on my upper lip. I had to use a teaspoon to eat. March 19, '16 SATURDAY Woke up, same: swollen & crusty-white. Upper lip's bigger than yesterday's. REALLY BIG. Took 5mg Cetirizine in the afternoon. But the Cetirizine is not helping with the swelling and because it doesn't itch, I'll stop taking it. I was told to increase my Medrol (Methylprednisolone, a maintenance rx for my myositis) from every other day to once a day to see if it'll make a difference. That's homemade bread pudding. I had a bad allergic reaction after I bit and sucked on a shrimp's head at dinner on Monday. My lips tingled, itched and turned red. They gave me half a Zyrtec right away and told me to take a teaspoonful of white sugar. I didn't have any food allergies until then. I admit that my lips used to tingle a little after sucking on a shrimp's head before but the feeling wouldn't last so it wasn't a bother. But, boy, that Monday's shrimp brain must've been toxic! I shut the modem off (so it can cool down at least) and we called 171 using someone's Smart cell (it's free). Went through the automated recording and pressed buttons accordingly.
