Condo Living: Taas ng Water Bill [SOLVED]

condo water bill

We get good water pressure. But a few times a year, it gets too strong that our kitchen faucet, bathroom shower, and bathroom sink faucet will leak. Nevertheless, we normally average maybe 15 cu.m. a month and our bill would be around 300 pesos depending on the rate. *This is a 1BR/1BA unit.

September 2021: Our water consumption spiked to 35 cu.m. compared to the previous billing. It was over 600 pesos! The water pressure was so strong that I had to replace the kitchen and bathroom sink faucets to stop the leaks. Water started to run into the toilet bowl too -- but we could fix that just by tapping the flush lever.

However, we did notice loud noise coming from inside the toilet tank like it was refilling itself sporadically -- I ignored this thinking that it will eventually stop when the water pressure in our building returns to normal.

October 2021: Our water consumption is higher at 42 cu.m. and the bill is over 800 pesos! Crazy. I went down to get my statement of account (SOA) on Oct. 17th and was shocked to see it. We read our water meter that evening and it was already at 751 cu.m.

Last reading per SOA is Oct. 6th at 733 cu.m. So, 751 cu.m. - 733 cu.m. = 18 cu.m. in 11 days or 1.6 cu.m. per day!  Waah, it's too much! We should not be going over 0.5 cu.m. per day.

I adjusted the toilet's water valve immediately and left it open just enough that I could still use the bidet and flush. The loud water noise from inside the tank went down to a less-obvious hissing or sometimes, dripping sound.

We read the meter again on the 19th. It was at 753 cu.m. which means we are down to 1 cu.m. per day since... I need to get the toilet fixed ASAP. I hope it's just a faulty flapper. I already ordered the part, just waiting for it to be delivered before calling for maintenance.

UPDATE 10/26/2021, PROBLEM SOLVED

replacement flapper toilet flush

I bought 2 kinds of replacement flappers for the toilet flush kasi di ko alam kung ano kakasya. A plumber from maintenance installed it today. He said the old flapper was already bloated and it was time to replace it. He used the black one because it's the same as the old one, except for the chain which is plastic. He said the blue one will fit too, but he recommends the black one because it's better daw.

We checked the water meter three days later and we are now using less than 0.4 cu.m./day which is what it should be... Problem solved.

I bought that black toilet flush flapper from Shopee.
