Mango season and food pics

 It's mango season! Lots of sweet ripe mangoes for sale 😋  Mango Slices, Pork Tocino + Vinegar Sawsawan My current favorite bigas  is Harvester's Sinandomeng Rice ( Shop Lazada  ↗). It is buhaghag but still soft.  Mango Slices, Beef Tapa + Salt on the Side I asked for salt. Maybe I'm having too much sweet fruit.  Mango slices, Purefoods hotdogs + UFC Banana Catsup I prefer Purefoods Cocktail Hotdogs compared to the regular sized Tender Juicy. Two weeks straight of sweet mangoes is cloying (but good for digestion!). Will hold off buying them for now.

  Chicken Nuggets (Purefoods Chicken Breast Nuggets) Yum with BBQ sause. Sliced mango yung nasa taas, masarap din, matamis. Homemade Baked Macaroni Ordered from a neighbor for noche buena. It has beef, mushrooms and bechamel sauce. Still yum. Second year in a row na since  2022 noche buena macaroni . Pork tocino and scrambled egg (Pampanga's Best Original Tocino) with suka, syempre. Dry yung eggs huhu. Sinangag sana yung rice pero bagong saing kasi. Dapat sa fried rice yung day-old na maalsa para buhaghag. Speaking of... tagalog ako pero yung term na "maalsa" sa bigas, recently ko lang naintindihan 😁 

Buddy fiesta ng Mang Inasal

  Masarap at malasa yung chicken and pork BBQ... but with java rice?  Hindi bagay with their java rice kasi nag-aaway ang lasa. Best with plain rice lang + sawsawan.

Angel's Pizza, dried espada, Palm corned beef with juices... Angel's Pizza  Creamy Spinach Dip - masarap, chewy yung crust Angel's Pizza Chicken Fingers - hindi masarap, maalat Dried Espada (fish) - masarap. Pahaba sya, pinaputol ko lang bago i-serve para malinis kainin. Paminsan-minsan lang ito kasi mabaho talaga iprito ang mga dried fish. Mahal ang 'uga' nato dito samin, ~150 pesos na ang 100g. Purefoods Corned Beef nagbago ang lasa?

Nagbago ang lasa ng Purefoods corned beef? Hindi na sya kasing sarap ng dati. Medyo matagal na namin napansin yung pagkakaiba. Kumintab ang hibla ng baka... parang plastic. Oks naman pag bagong luto at mainit pa, pero parang nag-iba na sya.

Jollibee Coffee Float (2023)

Cold coffee + ice cubes + vanilla soft serve. Masarap. Yummy. Ala carte at P62.00 or +P34.00 with a meal set (via Grab food). Tamang tama sa mainit at malagkit na panahon itong coffee float ng Jollibee .

Tapsilog ng Calle Tapsilog

Ang "si" sa tapsilog ng Calle Tapsilog ay hindi sinangag. Sinaing lang daw. Ang beef tapa nila ay stewed sa marinade kaya malambot ang laman at saucy. Nung unang bumili ako nito nung 2017 , akala ko nagkamali yung dineliver kasi tapa ang inorder ko. Tapa din pala tawag nila dito. Yung kinalakihan ko kasing tapa ay tuyo at naprito. Masarap din ito kasi parang halo ng adobo at asado.

Christmas Eve 2022

Noche Buena 2022... I already pre-ordered a "budget set" na good for 4 people daw (baked beef macaroni and fudgy cake) from one of our neighbors a week before. He delivered it around 6:30 pm on Dec. 24 so we heated the baked mac just before midnight... Masarap! Very pretty din ang packaging nya na merong holiday ribbons and all... di ko lang napicturan.  I did not want to prep or cook anymore para wala nang stress or bili pa ng mga ingredients. Relax and enjoy nalang. Naka-order nadin ako sa kapitbahay kong to ng baked mac dati so alam ko na oks ang gawa nya, maayos din ang packaging na ginagamit nya.   FYI, sobrang mahal na ng onions nowadays. Almost 400 pesos per kilo! 😲

Aguila Country Style Ham

This is the Aguila sliced ham ala country style. It is salty and thinly sliced, so it crisps up pag-fry... Yummy, parang bacon. "Hamsilog" for brunch... I had this Aguila country ham cut into bite-size pieces before serving para madaling kainin. Mga 1 & 1/2 slices lang andito sa plato ko. They piled on the fried rice too, hindi ko naubos. Had half a lakatan too but kinain ko na before taking this picture. Tonight's dinner will be sarciadong ampalaya... pang-balance sa ganitong heavy brunch.

Mang Inasal Palabok | Delivery

(08/30/2022) Tonight’s dinner is Mang Inasal delivery via Food Panda…  Mang Inasal Palabok (P73.00) Yummy palabok… but 1 calamansi is not enough. Padagdag po ng calamansi.  I also bought the Mang Inasal buddy size promo with 2 chicken inasal and 3 barbecue sticks which should be good for two more meals.   -  I did not want to eat rice tonight. We had Spam for brunch. It was the “Low Sodium” Spam but still so very salty so I ate more rice than usual. Andun padin ang salty taste even after I brushed my teeth. 

Red Ribbon Choco Caramel Roll Review (2022)

It’s dry! 🙁 What happened? This is the 2nd consecutive roll that we’ve bought from the Red Ribbon Bicutan branch at Dona Soledad Avenue… The previous one was the mango roll; it was dry too. Red Ribbon used to be our go-to shop for affordable roll cakes because they were so moist , but the quality has gone down. 😢 The Red Ribbon Ube Bloom round cake that we ordered last year 2021 was delicious though, so maybe it's just the rolls that changed.

— Pork giniling at pineapple tidbits … Pwede na. Wala kaming carrot or patatas, kaya green peas nalang nilagay ko. Saute chopped 4 cloves garlic at half white onion, 1/3 giniling, isang kustarang toyo ng 5 minutes. Ihalo ang syrup from maliit na pack ng tidbits, mga 4 na kutsarang tubig, magic sarap, pepper, and bring to a boil. Cover then lower heat. Simmer ng 15-18 minutes hanggang maluto at lumabot baboy. Dagdag ng kutsarang tubig in betwen kung kailangan lang. Ihalo green peas at simmer ng 5 minutes. Oks na. — Brunch: Scrambled egg and leftovers ... na adobong kangkong + small suahe shrimp na niluto sa garlic at Sprite. Buo yang shrimp pagluto syempre, nabalatan na yan sa plato. Di malaki ang suahe, la din makuha sa ulo. Next time Royal ang gagamitin namin sa hipon, kulang kasi sa tamis yung Sprite. — Youngstown sardines + fried egg ... at UFC banana catsup. Simple lang. Yum.

Authentic Butter Chicken

Maganda pag nakaka-tikim ng authentic food from other cultures like this one, butter chicken. Bili from a South Asian neighbor (I think Indian but not sure -- just checked, they are Arabic/Pakistani). It came with basmati rice. I like basmati rice kasi buhaghag sya. Nakatusok sa tinidor half na lakatan saging. I try to buy fruit regularly para we can eat at least 1 fruit/day. Health is wealth nga naman. Masarap ang butter chicken kasi saucy at spicy, but medyo maalat ata itong nagawa nila. We usually order chicken biryani from them. It comes with a side of yummy cold yogurt that balances the spiciness, pero I would still eat it with some plain white rice kasi di ko padin talaga kaya yung anghang ng biryani. Order nga ako next time para ma-picturan ko din yun.

Happy New Year 2022

That is Cali fizzy apple juice sa wine glasses. It tastes the same as 20 years ago, maasim padin haha.   Homemade lahat ng food, wala akong in-order this year. The leche flan does not look right but it tastes right so the ingredients for one llanera are correct. We still need a lot more practice in making it pa... I would do it myself but someone else insists so it ends up not silky and the melted sugar is not quite caramelized yet.

Atcharang Ampalaya

Atcharang Ampalaya... Pickled Ampalaya... Ampalaya Salad It doesn't look like a lot from the pic pero bawas na yan kasi kumain ako. Super simple to make with 1 Ampalaya + 1/4 White Onion (or 1 small shallot) + 1 Tomato + Vinegar, Sugar, Cold Water. Prepare the ampalaya properly: Cut lengthwise, slice thinly. Put it in a bowl, add lots of coarse salt + water (a.k.a brine) until submerged. Leave it to brine for ~30 minutes. Then, massage it hard with your hands - drain the brine - add water - massage again - drain water - done! This really removes most of the bitterness from the ampalaya. Prep the tomato by removing the seeds first and slicing to about the same size as the ampalaya. Slice the onion the same way. Put the prepped ampalaya, tomato and onion in a container. The pickling juice/marinade is 1 part vinegar to half parts sugar and cold water. In a separate bowl, dissolve the suger in vinegar first before adding the cold water. My Super Easy Beef Caldereta

My Super Easy Beef Caldereta  I cooked this last night... My version of super easy beef caldereta!   INGREDIENTS (Only 3-4 ingredients /Serves 2 people /Cooking time <1.5 hours) 1. Mama Sita's Spicy Caldereta powdered mix 50g but only use half (though meron na atang 25g pack nito so you can use that)  2. Beef brisket, this is 1/3 kilo cut into thumb-thick strips  3. Potatoes 3-4 medium pcs, cut into medium cubes 4. Green peas 1 can 155g, strained 5. Bell pepper 1 medium, cut into strips (I didn't have any last night but if you have this, use it para mas masarap at mukhang caldereta talaga)  ... What about carrots, you ask? I am starting not to like it in red stews so no carrots here. STEPS: • Salt + Pepper the beef, pinch lang • Heat vegetable oil and fry the beef until after blood shows and then, it browns    As you can see from the picture, I used a small pot so I fried my beef in batches. It needs space to fry until brown kasi. • Put all the browned beef into the same p

Jollibee Tapa Ready-to-Eat

Tapsilog with Jollibee's Ready-to-Eat Tapa  Since the Covid-19 pandemic, a lot of the fast-food chains started to sell their food products marketed as ready-to-eat (RTE) that consumers can buy pre-packed. This one is Jollibee's beef tapa from their dedicated commissary. It is marinated beef tapa that you cook ala Jollibee style na medyo saucy pa... do not overcook it or else, it will become too salty and tough. Malasa na talaga sya for me at di na kailangan ng sawsawan. Very tasty and tamang-tama for "tapsilog."

I Cooked Pork Adobo

 I don't cook regularly but I think I know how. Like in cooking pork adobo, for example, there are various versions and your preference might lean towards what you grew up eating... What I Grew Up With Ours was salty, sweet, sour, oily, almost dry. It was delicious after it was boiled down and fried in its own fat, or they would add more oil at the end to do the job... They did not put potatoes when I was growing up.  What I Made Last Night  I cooked pork adobo last night. We had old potatoes that needed to be cooked that's why I added them here.  A few thoughts I had while cooking this were: • Fry the potatoes first and set it aside to add later when the meat is almost tender • Boil the pork with crushed garlic cloves, laurel leaves, peppercorn, and just a little bit of soy sauce because I will still adjust the taste later • Only add sugar after the pork and potatoes are cooked because I only want to sweeten the sauce, not the meat • It will really only

February 2021: I ordered Korean ingredients online... Nakagawa nadin kami ng bibimbap 😄 Sarap sa unang mga subo pero mabilis din maumay kaya dapat wag takaw mata! Tamang timpla at dami lang dapat para sulit at di maaksaya.
